REMEMBERING THE PAST

The Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church had its Genesis when thirteen people with a vision for a Bible believing church in the city of Delaware met and formed the nucleus for what we now enjoy. Those initial members were: Pastor Arnold Moore and his wife Ruth; Dorsel and Elizabeth Messick; Dennis Barker; Chester and Pearl Blevins; Jesse and Verna Williams; Charles and Clara Lewis; and Otis and Maria Morrow.

The year was 1960 when the infant church was chartered and met on the third floor of the Western Auto building on the corner of North Sandusky and Central Avenue. As the church continued to grow the church bought a building on Kelly McMaster Road in April 1961. The name Pleasant Hill was then adopted in reference to the hill the church was located upon. Extensive repairs were then needed on the building before services could begin.

The church had its dedication and first worship service in the building and first worship service in the building on the last Sunday of August 1961. The Church under the blessing of the Holy Spirit continued to reach out in the community and the Lord gave increase.

Anticipating the need for continued expansion the church purchased land at 230 Hayes Street, Delaware, Ohio in 1969. The church signed their letter of incorporation on October 18, 1972. January 1st. 1973 a bond program was started to finance the construction of a new sanctuary. The dedication service for the new building was October 1973. Over the years pastors and their families added to the work of the church.

Through the years God continued to bless His people. In need of Sunday school rooms, in 1988 a Sunday school wing was built to accompany 7 classes. In 1996 a larger Sanctuary was built to occupy 300 people. We can only Praise the Lord for the increase.

We now continue in calm assurance that the work the Lord has started will not be diminished. The message that the church must continue to adhere, and the work must never slacken. “That my Father’s house might be full.”
