Perish

    Strong's Concordance # 622 -apollumi  --perish 33, destroy 26, lose 22, be lost 5, lost 4, miscellaneous 2

John 3:16   For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in  him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.

(  I always thought "perish" here, meant "go to hell when you die" )

Here are some different ways "apollumi" is used:

Matthew 9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and
the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

Matthew 5:29  And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one
of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

    Luke 15:9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me;
for I have found the piece which I had lost. ( has nothing to do with her coin going to hell when it died )

Matthew 12:14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

Romans 14:15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy
    meat, for whom Christ died.

The word perish was used to mean more than one thing. Contrary to what we have been taught, it does not mean
"go to hell when we die".  From worn out wine skins to killing someone or,
    simply, offending a young Christian
brother, it is plain to see that to perish is used to show negativity in one sense or another.

For us humans, walking through this life without depending on Christ means we are perishing... We are being
devoured by the adversary, the god of this world...the prince and power of the air. So, where does all
    this "negativity"
come from? Was it a surprise to God?  Maybe He had to brainstorm for plan B when Adam
    and Eve ate that fruit.?
No, I believe He had the whole plan for His creation in His mind before He ever said
"let there be light."  How else
could the lamb have been slain before the foundation of the world?    Perishing is as much a part of God's plan for

humanity as believing.  Darkness needs light. Hunger needs bread. Sinners need a savior.
