LEADERSHIP UPDATE of the Southeast Region
Volume 5,
Issue 8 September 2010

TAKING
TIME
Everywhere I go, I hear individuals
and congregations sighing over the fact that summer is at an end and the rat
race of school year activities (in the community as well as the local church)
is about to resume. Before we allow ourselves to be sucked into thinking that a
harried lifestyle or overloaded calendar is somehow unavoidable or
advantageous, lets take a few moments to think about simple ways to invest our
time.
Humor me, and do an experiment. Think of 10
things that take 60 seconds or less
to do, that might give you a personal sense of joy or connectedness with
someone else.
1
2 3 Go! . . . .
What did you come up with? Here are a few of
mine: starting the day by brewing a fresh pot of coffee, taking some moments to
watch the morning sunlight hit the tree tops in my back yard, praying for
someone as soon as they come to mind, telling my wife that I love her, sending
a text or email message to someone needing encouragement, taking time to chat
with a neighbor, repeating & reflecting upon a challenging Scripture verse,
looking for an opportunity to interject a word about my faith in Christ into a
conversation, turning off the TV so I can read a book . . . the possibilities are limitless, even
for 60 seconds!
Having realized the potential of
better utilizing the minutes in our
day, imagine what could happen if you intentionally invested in a longer
stretch of time, say six months.
Thats the amount of time Bishop Roller gave us (from the April Overflow Conference
until Sunday October 10) to determine what new outreach group(s) individuals in
your church, or your congregation as a whole, could launch this fall.
Where are you in the process finalizing
your outreach focus? training leaders? launching the groups? Wherever you are
keep moving! Remember, Living the Story and Telling the Story is a lifestyle of
taking time to reflect God and to share about God.
Pastors remember to report your new fall
outreach small groups to Bishop Roller no later than October 10, at
www.livethestorytellthestory.com.

ON-LINE INNOVATIVE MINISTRY IDEAS DAY
Leadership
Network and Catalyst have teamed up to provide a unique, free training
experience . . . did I say FREE? On September 9 they will present a totally
on-line event called THE NINES (the
9th month, the 9th day for 9 hours). You will hear over
100 speakers each share for 6 minutes their most recent fruitful ministry
discovery (including Rick Warren, Craig Groeschel, Dave Gibbons and others). This
will take place 11:30am 8:30pm Eastern Time; adjust for other time zones. To
register for this experience, go to www.thenines.leadnet.org
and select the FREE rate. Watch it alone at your computer, or better yet,
invite a small group of other church leaders to watch it with you.
2010: EVERY
PERSON A PASSIONATE
PRAY-ER
As for me, far be it
from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you . . .
